Delaware State HOPE Fund
Wilmington – Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, many of Delaware’s state employees have expressed their willingness to aid the victims and their families. At the request of Gov. Ruth Ann Minner, Lt. Gov. John C. Carney, Jr., with the help of state Director of Personnel Lisa Blunt-Bradley, has been investigating a way for state employees to help. The result is the Delaware State HOPE (Helping Other Public Employees) Fund.
“Like all Americans, our state employees have responded to this difficult time with an outpouring of generosity, compassion and prayer,” Carney said. “The Delaware State HOPE Fund is a way we can provide aid to our colleagues and their families who have been affected by the tragic events of September 11th.”
There are two ways the contributions of state employees can help. First, the World Trade Center Relief Fund has established a sub-account for contributions that will benefit the families of the 199 state employees dead or missing in New York. This was done through the efforts of Lt. Gov. Carney working with New York Lt. Gov. Mary Donohue. Second, The Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund (FEEA, Inc.) is accepting donations that will benefit the families of federal employees killed, including the many who died at the Pentagon.
Those who are interested in making a contribution should write a check to “The World Trade Center Relief Fund” and note in the memo section: Public Employees Fund. To help federal employees, checks can be made payable to “FEEA, Inc.” State employees are asked to forward contributions to their department HR manager who will direct them to the Lt. Gov. Carney’s Wilmington office. Contributions will be accepted from anyone else at the Lt. Governor’s Office, and should be sent to: HOPE Fund, Lt. Governor’s office, Carvel State Office Building, Wilmington, DE. 19801. Donations to both funds are tax deductible and should be received by Friday, October 5, 2001.
Recognizing that some employees may want to direct their contributions to other relief efforts, a link to a list of additional agencies is posted on the State of Delaware portal (delaware.gov).
