Lt. Governor Carney kicks off Challenge for state employees this Monday
Dover – Lt. Governor John C. Carney, Jr. will announce the start of the Lt. Governor’s Challenge for state employees with a fun walk on the steps of Legislative Hall this Monday, June 21, at 12:15 p.m.
The Challenge, which Carney started about two years ago, has had more than 12,000 people sign up and has many group participants, including corporate, faith-based and senior organizations.
The Challenge’s goal is to help the First State become the Fit State. Lt. Governor Carney has developed the program in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, Christiana Care, the Division of Public Health, the State Chamber of Commerce and the University of Delaware. The Challenge was created to help make Delawareans aware that being more physically active doesn’t mean countless hours at the gym or running marathons.
Participants in the Lt. Governor’s Challenge accumulate points by completing any of a wide variety of daily activities. After three months, participants are awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal based on the number of points they earned. Participants use an official Challenge logbook to track their progress.
Members of the media are welcome to attend. Lt. Governor Carney and participants will be available for comment. Log books and other information on the Lt. Governor’s Challenge will also be available.
