Lt. Governor's Challenge Event at Dover International Speedway
Lt. Governor John C. Carney, Jr. hosted over 160 Delawareans as they burned some shoe rubber and took a victory lap of their own at Dover International Speedway's Monster Mile on Wednesday, June 15, 2005. This was the second year Dover International Speedway has hosted the Lt. Governor's Challenge.
The Challenge, which Carney started three years ago, has had almost 20,000 people sign up and has many group participants, including corporate, faith-based and senior organizations. The Challenge was created to help make Delawareans aware that being more physically active doesn't mean countless hours at the gym. "The Challenge isn't about running a marathon or becoming a power lifter," Carney said. "It's about having a good time with family and friends. I can't think of a better place to get some physical activity while having fun than at a state landmark like Dover International Speedway."
Participants in the Lt. Governor's Challenge accumulate points by completing any of a wide variety of daily activities. After three months, participants are awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal based on the number of points they earned. Participants use an official Challenge logbook to track their progress.
