FAMILY LITERACY SUMMER READING EVENT AT CHRIST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Lt. Governor John C. Carney Jr. is kicking off Delaware 's Family Literacy Summer Reading Campaign on Monday, June 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Elsmere , DE . This year's theme is Dragons, Dreams, and Daring Deeds .
Each year the Delaware Division of Libraries sponsors the Annual Summer Reading Program which encourages both students and parents to recognize the importance of making reading a fun, family activity. This event is the first annual summer reading program for the Red Clay Even Start program.
Lt. Governor Carney will read "The Mysterious Tadpole" to the students. Participants in the Family Literacy Summer Reading Program accumulate points by keeping track of how many books they read over the summer. Parents and students are encouraged to read together. At the end of the August the participants are awarded free books based on their results.
The event is co-sponsored by Literacy Volunteers Serving Adults, the Red Clay Even Start Family Literacy Programs, and the Delaware Division of Libraries. More information on the Family Literacy Summer Reading Program and each of its sponsors will also be available.
