Dover - State Senator Colin Bonini (16th District) was joined by Lt. Governor John C. Carney, Jr., at the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle in Camden today as his "Pounds for Hounds" fund-raiser came to a close.  Senator Bonini pledged to lose as much weight as possible from the  February 1, 2005 kick-off date through today, the end of the Legislative session.  The official weigh-in this morning showed that Senator Bonini dropped 40 pounds.

In an effort to help the Senator with his weight-loss program, Lt. Governor Carney enrolled him in the "Lt. Governor's Challenge" physical activity program.  Today he was awarded a gold medal for not only meeting - but exceeding - CDC standards for daily physical activity.  [Sixty minutes per day/five or more days per week.]

Senator Bonini asked the public to sponsor him in his efforts to lose weight and give to a worthy cause: the Kent County SPCA.  By losing 40 pounds Senator Bonini raised over $3,000 for the organization.

"Colin did all the right things in his effort to lose weight," Lt. Governor Carney stated.  "He made a commitment, he involved other people and he made it fun.  He also reduced his risk of contracting Type 2 diabetes and heart disease."

Senator Bonini said, "Having a goal like helping the Kent County SPCA really kept me on track.  They are a great organization and I am happy that we were able to raise this money for them.  And the Lt. Governor's Challenge really helped keep me accountable when it came to exercise."

The Challenge, which Lt. Governor Carney started just over three years ago, has had almost 20,000 people sign up, including participants from schools, corporate, faith-based and senior organizations.
