Lt. Governor Carney, Sec. of Finance Cordrey Promote Senior Property Tax Credit
Lt. Governor John Carney and Secretary of Finance Richard Cordrey spoke today at the Weston Senior Center in New Castle to promote the state's school property tax credit for seniors. The Senior Property Tax Credit is available this year to Delawareans 65 and older who apply by September 1st.
"The senior property tax credit was one of the programs I helped implement during my time as Secretary of Finance," said Lt. Governor Carney. "It's a great way to show our appreciation for the contributions that many older Delawareans have made, and continue to make to the Delaware community."
Applicants who qualify for the senior property tax credit are eligible for a 50% reduction in the school portion of their property tax, with a maximum credit of $500. Seniors must apply by September 1st to be eligible for the credit this year.
"It gives me great pleasure to be able to offer this break for Delaware's seniors," said Sec. of Finance Richard Cordrey. "They are the ones that have paid into our system the longest, and it's good we can give something back for all their hard work."
