Lt. Governor Carney recognizes Kirk Middle School as a Model of Excellence in Education
Lt. Governor John Carney this morning joined Principal Don Patton and representatives from the Christina School District at a banner presentation to honor George V. Kirk Middle School as a Model of Excellence in Education winner. Kirk Middle School is one of just three public schools across the state to earn this distinction.
"I really enjoy going into schools throughout the state and seeing some of the great ideas and techniques being used to teach our children," said Lt. Governor John Carney. "The Models of Excellence program gives us a great opportunity to recognize and encourage these schools, like Kirk, that are taking an effective and innovative approach to education."
Kirk Middle School was recognized in May at an awards ceremony held jointly by Lt. Governor Carney and the State Chamber of Commerce to honor Delaware's highest achieving schools. As a result of receiving this award, Kirk will participate in a sharing forum later this month designed to foster greater communication between Delaware's schools.
"Sharing effective ideas and programs with other schools is the real strength of Models," said Lt. Governor Carney. "Teachers, parents, and most of all students, from across the state benefit from knowing what has proven successful in other schools."
The Models of Excellence program, started in 2002 by Lt. Governor John Carney, seeks to recognize schools that have consistently raised student achievement and provide them with a forum to share their practices with others.
