Obama, Biden Meet with Denn and Other State Stimulus Czars

Denn brings back to Delaware ideas to maximize the state's stimulus opportunity, and announces weekly updates on stimulus progress

For Immediate Release: March 13, 2009

Washington, D.C. - The day after being appointed Delaware's Stimulus Czar by Governor Jack Markell, Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn met with President Obama, Vice President Biden, 48 of the nation's other Stimulus Implementation Czars, and senior Obama administration officials at the "White House Recovery and Reinvestment Act Implementation Conference" in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. The meeting offered Denn ideas about how to maximize the state's stimulus opportunity.

"The process for securing funds is very complex, and we need to get right to work," Denn said. "The Governor and I are committed to making sure that Delaware can get the maximum benefit out of this stimulus package to get Delaware's economy moving again. These funds should help our schools, roads, energy, and public safety, and should help put many Delawareans back to work."

Vice President Biden urged states to regularly update the administration on projects funded by the stimulus. Denn plans to provide monthly briefings to the Obama-Biden administration, and weekly updates for the public on steps Delaware is taking to use the federal stimulus package to put Delawareans back to work and reinvigorate our economy. The updates will be posted at www.recovery.delaware.gov.

Added Governor Markell, "We are going to maximize every opportunity to use federal resources to put Delawareans back to work. We will ensure that these resources are managed in a transparent and accountable manner and appreciate the support the White House has offered to Matt Denn and others."
