About the Lieutenant Governor’s Office


The Lt. Governor of Delaware is the second ranking executive office in the state after the Governor of Delaware. The Lt. Governor presides over the state Senate and chairs Delaware’s Board of Pardons. The Lt. Governor’s office also serves as a resource to help Delawareans connect with various state agencies and divisions.

President of the Senate


The first constitutional duty of the Lieutenant Governor is to preside over the Delaware State Senate which consists of 21 senators. The Lieutenant Governor only casts votes in order to break a tie.

President of the Board of Pardons


The other constitutional duty of the Lieutenant Governor is to serve on the Board of Pardons with the Chancellor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer and Auditor of Accounts.
